December marked the end of my radio career, at least for the near future. I have decided to focus on other things. I am happy to announce that another firearm show will be replacing us. Learn about their new show at www.ballisticradio.com I want to thank you all for your support; I am not exaggerating when I say that this show probably saved my life, and most certainly changed it for the better. I will be teaching at TDI, so I hope to see some of my old listeners out there. Take care! Joe Barrett

Ben Hoffman - 7/10/11
I grew up on a 80 acre farm in Esko, Minnesota. After graduating fromthe University of Minnesota in Chemical Engineering, I worked for acompany supplying specialty Chemicals into the paper industry. I movedto West Chester in 2004 and now manage the mid-west region of the USfor a pigment company.
I started shooting as soon as I could get my hands a gun. That was apellet gun around 8 or 9 years old. I shot most everyday being stuckout in the country without much else to do. I was always pretty goodand noticed that I could hit most everything I wanted to without mucheffort, but my friends did not have the same luck.
Once I hit college and the age of 21, I started buying guns. Highquality hand guns and target type rifles were my favorite. I alsofound out at this time that I had better than normal eye sight. 10/20in by right and 12/20 in my left. Unfortunately I am down to 14/20 nowfor both eyes.
I was always hooked on anything with a trigger, but I excelled with ahandgun, almost to the point I was shooting more accurately with ahandgun, that most could shoot with a rifle. Once I moved toCincinnati, I did not have much to do as my family was still up inMinnesota until our house sold. So I brought a few guns down with meand starting shooting at a local range. One of the guys shooting nextto me said that he never saw anyone shoot such a tight group, that Ishould come out and shoot bowling pins later that night. I never heardof shooting bowling pins... but I was willing to give it a shot, nopun intended. After the first night, it only was a matter of timebefore I starting winning fairly often, then most every night. TheBowling Pin shoot was shut down after a while, but by the time it didshut down, I held all the records for single fastest tables and alsothe three table averages, in all the shooting classes.
At this time I started building my own guns to fit each class I wantedto shoot. Open, Limited, Revolver, 22caliber auto's. You name it, Iwas building it. I also started shooting USPSA and NRA Bianchi Cup.The first time I drove out to the Bianchi Cup, I had no idea what toexpect, I never even shot at a moving target before. By the time I wasshooting the match, I was able to take 4th place over all. It feltgood as the three people who were ahead of me were Doug Koenig, BrucePiatt, and Mike Voight, all three professional world class shooters. The Bianchi Cup has 4 stages to it; the practicle, the moving target, the barricade, and the plates. I was able to win overall in theBarricade, two years in a row, and also on the plates. The first yearout I was ranked as high as you can go in NRA action pistol as an HighExpert.
USPSA shooting is my favorite type of shooting however. It is actionpacked, makes you think while shooting, and different every match. Itis a lot of fun going out to the matches as lots of people enjoywatching someone shoot that does it well. I like to take the hardshots and make it as exciting as I can. I am a Grandmaster in Open anda master in Limited, but I only shot Limited in competition six times,so that will change to Grandmaster sometime soon I hope.
I have been making competition pistols and AR 15's for about 6 yearsnow and have a hard time keeping the guns I make around for too long.I go shoot them in a match, and it seems that fairly often, one of theother competitors is leaving with the gun I just tuned, but with a lotless in their bank account. The best yet is a picture was taken of meand posted on a gun forum. A man from Greece, found my number andcalled... He wanted the gun I was shooting... money did not matter. Soa few months later, after all his paper work was done, by gun was onthe way to Greece.
